Cheap VPS in Europe, without the hidden costs
Updated
Wolkra's cheapest VPS in Europe costs €3.49 per month for 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 15 GB disk in Frankfurt, Germany, and traffic is unmetered, so the price you see is close to the price you pay. Billing is hourly from a prepaid balance with no setup fees and no contracts.
Cheap at the start, cheap at the end of the month
A low headline price only helps if the invoice matches. Budget hosting often gets expensive through extras: traffic overage, paid firewalls, setup fees, or a long contract you can't leave. We built Wolkra so the extras are few and visible.
| Cost that often surprises people | At Wolkra |
|---|---|
| Traffic overage | None, traffic is unmetered with fair use |
| Firewall | Free |
| Setup fee | None |
| Minimum term | None, delete any time |
| IPv6 | Included |
| IPv4 | €0.89/month, optional |
| Backups | Optional, 20% of the server price |
What a cheap setup really costs
Here are three realistic examples using the smallest Standard plan, s0. Prices are in EUR without VAT.
| Setup | What's included | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|
| IPv6-only test box | s0 server | €3.49 |
| Small public website | s0 + primary IPv4 | €4.38 |
| Small website with backups | s0 + IPv4 + daily backups (7 restore points) | about €5.08 |
Because billing is per started hour and capped at the monthly price, a server you run for only part of the month costs less than these totals. See hourly billing VPS for how that works.
Who a budget VPS suits
- Students and learners who want a real Linux server to practise on.
- Hobby projects: a Discord bot, a small game server, a personal blog.
- Freelancers hosting a few client sites on one well-sized server.
- Self-hosters running a WireGuard VPN, Uptime Kuma or a password manager.
- Developers who need throwaway test environments that disappear after the work is done.
The Standard plans
Standard (s) plans use shared vCPUs and are the most affordable family. They are a good fit for websites, APIs, bots and small databases.
Standard
Shared vCPU for websites, apps, VPNs and development.
| Plan | vCPU | RAM | Disk | Traffic | Hourly | Monthly cap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S0 | 1 | 1 GB | 15 GB | Unmetered | €0.0056 | €3.49 |
| S1 | 1 | 2 GB | 30 GB | Unmetered | €0.0080 | €4.99 |
| S2 | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB | Unmetered | €0.0144 | €8.99 |
| S3 | 2 | 8 GB | 50 GB | Unmetered | €0.0200 | €12.49 |
| S4 | 4 | 8 GB | 80 GB | Unmetered | €0.0288 | €17.99 |
| S5 | 4 | 16 GB | 100 GB | Unmetered | €0.0400 | €24.99 |
If you outgrow a plan, resize to a bigger one. Disks can grow but never shrink, so start with the size you need today rather than the one you might need next year. The full range, including CPU-optimised and Memory-optimised plans, is on pricing.
Ways to keep your bill low
- Skip IPv4 where you can. Internal services and some personal tools work fine on IPv6. Backend servers can sit on a private network with no public IP at all.
- Delete what you don't use. Hourly billing means a test server you remove after an afternoon costs only that afternoon.
- Use snapshots for parked projects. Snapshot a server, delete it, and create a new server from the snapshot when you need it again. Snapshots are billed per GB.
- Put several small sites on one server. A reverse proxy such as Caddy makes this simple. See our Caddy guide.
- Use one-click apps. Docker, WordPress and Coolify images save setup time, which is a cost too.
What you don't give up on a cheap plan
The €3.49 server is a full KVM machine, not a stripped-down container. You get root access, a choice of Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream or Fedora, a browser console, rescue mode, rebuilds, the free firewall, CPU and network graphs and access to the REST API. It runs in the same Frankfurt location as every bigger plan, with the same unmetered traffic and ports up to 10 Gbit/s shared.
Paying for a cheap VPS
Top up your balance by card through Stripe, or with USDT (TRC-20) or TRX on TRON. You can start with a small amount and add more later. Low-balance emails arrive before anything is stopped, and servers are only deleted after a grace period and a final notice. Details are in the billing docs.
Compare before you decide
If you are comparing budget providers, our pages on Hetzner, DigitalOcean and Vultr say plainly where each one is strong. For a wider view of hosting in Germany, see VPS Germany.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest Wolkra VPS?
The s0 plan costs €3.49 per month with 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 15 GB disk, billed hourly and capped at that price. A primary IPv4 is optional at €0.89 per month.
Can I run a server without paying for IPv4?
Yes. Every server can have an IPv6 address, which is included, so an IPv6-only server costs just the plan price. Servers on a private network can also go without public IPs.
Are there setup fees or a minimum term?
No. There are no setup fees and no contracts. You pay per started hour from a prepaid balance and can delete a server at any time.
Will a cheap plan cost more if my site gets busy?
Not because of traffic. Traffic is unmetered on every plan with fair use, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one unless you add resources.
Is a €3.49 VPS enough for a website?
For a small site, a personal project or a VPN it often is. If you need more memory or CPU later, you can resize to a bigger plan.
