Cloud infrastructure for SaaS and startups
Updated
For a SaaS startup, Wolkra is a European cloud in Frankfurt with the building blocks to run a product on virtual machines (servers, private networks, load balancers, volumes and backups), billed by the hour with unmetered traffic and no contracts.
It fits teams who sell to European customers, want their data in Germany, and want a bill they can predict.
Why startups choose servers over platforms
Managed platforms are quick on day one, but their bills grow with requests, seats and bandwidth. Plain cloud servers cost the same whether a page is viewed ten times or ten thousand times. With containers and a Compose file or a self-hosted platform such as Coolify, you keep most of the convenience.
- Predictable cost. A server price, billed hourly and capped monthly. Traffic is unmetered.
- No lock-in. Standard Linux, Docker and open-source tools run anywhere.
- Room to grow. Resize servers, add more behind a load balancer, split out the database.
A typical SaaS architecture on Wolkra
| Layer | Wolkra building block |
|---|---|
| Entry point | Load balancer with health checks, layer 4 or HTTP |
| App servers | Standard or CPU-optimised cloud servers, spread with a placement group |
| Database | A memory-optimised server with a block storage volume |
| Internal traffic | A private network with your own IP ranges |
| Outbound access for private servers | A NAT gateway |
| Security | Free stateful firewalls on servers or labels |
| Recovery | Daily backups and on-demand snapshots |
| Failover address | A floating IP |
App and database servers can run with no public IP at all. Only the load balancer faces the internet.
The Composer lets you draw this stack on a canvas, see the monthly cost before applying, and apply it in order. Its optional AI assistant can draft a stack from a short description.

- MVP: one Standard server running app and database together.
- First paying customers: separate the database, turn on backups, add a firewall.
- Growth: two or more app servers behind a load balancer, a memory-optimised database server, and staging copies cloned from snapshots.
Everything is billed per started hour from a prepaid balance. You can top up automatically by card so production never runs dry.
GDPR and customer trust
European customers often ask where their data is stored. With Wolkra the answer is short: in Frankfurt, Germany. Servers, volumes, backups and snapshots all stay there. Our privacy policy names the processors we use, which helps when you build your own records. See EU VPS and GDPR and the GDPR hosting guide.
Working as a team
- Organizations and projects for production, staging and development, each with its own resources.
- Roles for owner, admin, billing and member, plus per-project roles.
- Activity log for who created, changed or deleted what.
- Security: two-factor authentication (TOTP), active session control, sign-in with Google.
See teams and security.
Automate from day one
The REST API uses project-scoped tokens that can be read-only or read/write, with an optional IP allow list and expiry. Use it from your deploy scripts or CI to create preview servers, rotate app servers or attach volumes. Combine it with cloud-init user data so new servers configure themselves. See CI runners and development environments.
Operations you control
- Monitoring: CPU, disk and network graphs per server in the console. See monitoring.
- Recovery: rescue mode, browser console, rebuilds and restores from backups.
- Safety: delete protection on servers you can't afford to lose.
- Support: tickets in the console and email, and a status page.
Billing a finance team can read
- Prepaid balance, no contracts, no setup fees.
- Hourly billing capped at the monthly price.
- Prices in EUR, without VAT.
- Card or crypto (USDT on TRC-20 and TRX), with optional automatic top-up by card.
- Low-balance emails before anything stops.

Frequently asked questions
Is Wolkra suitable for a production SaaS?
Yes, for workloads that run on virtual machines. You get servers, private networks, load balancers, volumes, backups and firewalls, all in Frankfurt.
Is there a contract or minimum spend?
No. You top up a prepaid balance, servers are billed by the hour and capped at the monthly price, and there are no setup fees.
Can our whole team work in one account?
Yes. Create an organization, invite members with roles such as owner, admin, billing and member, and separate environments into projects.
Do you offer managed databases?
No. You run your database on a cloud server, ideally a memory-optimised plan in a private network with backups turned on.
Which regions do you have?
One location today: Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is close to customers across Europe and keeps data in the EU.
Can we automate infrastructure?
Yes. The REST API with project-scoped tokens covers servers and the resources around them, and cloud-init sets servers up on first boot.
