Getting started
Updated
To get started on Wolkra, create an account, add balance, upload an SSH key and create a server in Frankfurt. You can be logged in to your new server about five minutes after sign-up.
1. Create an account
Go to console.wolkra.com/signup and sign up with your email address, or sign in with Google. You can turn on two-factor authentication right away under your account settings; see account security.
Your account belongs to an organization, and resources live in projects inside it. A default project is ready to use. Create more projects later to separate, for example, production and testing.
2. Add balance
Wolkra is prepaid. Open Billing in the console and top up:
- Card through Stripe (Visa, Mastercard and others). You can enable automatic top-up so the balance never runs low.
- Crypto: USDT (TRC-20) or TRX on the TRON network.
Prices are in EUR without VAT. Servers are billed per started hour and never more than the monthly price. See billing and balance and pricing.
3. Add an SSH key
SSH keys are the safest way to log in. On your computer:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "my-laptop"
cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
In the console, open SSH keys, choose Add SSH key and paste the line that starts with ssh-ed25519. New to keys? Read the SSH keys guide.
If you skip this step, you can choose to receive a root password by email instead.
4. Create a server
Open Servers and choose Create server:
- Location: Frankfurt (
fra1). - Image: an operating system such as Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12, or a one-click app like Docker or WordPress.
- Plan: start small, for example a Standard plan. You can resize to a bigger plan later.
- Networking: keep a public IPv4 if the server must be reachable over IPv4; an IPv6 address is included.
- SSH key: select the key you added.
- Name: something you will recognise, like
web-1.
Then confirm. The full list of options, including backups, firewalls and cloud-init, is in create a server.
Standard

| S1 | 1 | 2 GB | 30 GB | Unmetered | €0.0080 | €4.99 |
| S2 | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB | Unmetered | €0.0144 | €8.99 |
| S3 | 2 | 8 GB | 50 GB | Unmetered | €0.0200 | €12.49 |
| S4 | 4 | 8 GB | 80 GB | Unmetered | €0.0288 | €17.99 |
| S5 | 4 | 16 GB | 100 GB | Unmetered | €0.0400 | €24.99 |
5. Connect
When the server shows as running, copy its IP address from the overview and connect:
ssh [email protected] # example address, use your server's IP
Details and troubleshooting are in connect with SSH. If SSH does not work, open the browser console from the server view.
6. Protect it
Two quick wins:
- Create a firewall that allows SSH only from your own address and web ports from anywhere, and apply it to the server. Firewalls are free.
- Turn on daily backups for servers that matter.
Then work through first steps on a new VPS on the server itself.
What next
- Add a volume for data that should outlive the server.
- Put servers on a private network so databases need no public IP.
- Spread traffic with a load balancer.
- Automate with the API using API tokens.
- Invite team members and set roles in your organization.
If anything is unclear, open a ticket in the console or write to [email protected]. All docs are listed on the docs overview.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get a server?
Usually a few minutes from sign-up. The server itself boots within moments of being created; one-click apps need a few extra minutes to finish setting up.
Do I need to add money before creating a server?
Yes. Wolkra uses a prepaid balance, so you add credit first and usage is deducted by the hour.
Is there a minimum term?
No. Servers are billed per started hour and capped at the monthly price, with no contract and no setup fee.
Which location should I pick?
Wolkra has one location today, Frankfurt am Main (fra1), which serves Germany and the rest of Europe.
